If you get sick easily, you may not want to read this. That is, if you get sick when you hear about liturgical abuse.
In a Catholic (at least in name) parish in another country, in order to celebrate the fruits of the Spirit on the feast of Pentecost this last week, the priest made and served to the entire congregation a fruit salad during Mass. I am not joking (O, I truly wish that I was!). I saw a video (you are better off if you do not go looking for it--some things are hard to erase from your memory!) of this blasphemy. No, I am not using that word lightly.
That priest will have to give account for his sacrilegious behavior in the Mass, but the deception he caused is far worse. I pray for the souls of those people who were led to believe that this was pleasing to God (and there were children there!). Remember though, the "big problem" (according some in the Church) is people who insist on tradition and reverence--they are the ones that need to be stifled (!).
The quote of our Lord that comes to mind is, "O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you?" (Mark 9:19). Even our Lord felt burdened by stubborn and froward people. It is a comfort to know that He understands how we feel in these dark days of liturgical bedlam. Lord have mercy upon us; Christ have mercy upon us; Lord have mercy upon us.
