"Be thankful for bad luck. Without it, you'd have to blame yourself."
I really like that quote. I do not remember where I heard it the first time, but I have kept it and refer back to it regularly. It is a humorous, but accurate, portrayal of the fact that we do not like to accept blame. We tend to do everything possible to avoid responsibility; even breaking the eighth commandment and blaming others for our sins.
Thus, when we truly do experience "bad luck" and there is absolutely no one on whom we can lay the blame, what a grace that is! It helps us never to forget that we do not always make mistakes; others do not always make mistakes; sometimes it is just the circumstances that God has put us in and allowed to happen so that we can see that the world we live in is a fallen place, and bad things do happen (even to good people). Our Lord could prevent those things from happening, but He loves us too much to do that. Bad "luck" is a grace of God; be thankful for it.
