How much do you "decide for yourself" in daily life? How much of your life is structured or controlled by someone else? I am not speaking about governmental control (though that is an issue), but more about things in general. How do you decide what to have for breakfast? How do you decide what road to drive on? How do you decide whether to say your daily prayers? All of these decisions, and others, are based on a certain attitude toward God. If we see God as the absolute authority, then we will live accordingly and obey those whom He has placed over us. If, however, we see ourselves as the ultimate authority (even if we say out loud that God is the ultimate authority) we will live our lives making all our own decisions and will resist obedience to any and all authority. If the only time we obey the authorities over us is when we agree with them, then we are never really obeying anyone or anything but our own selfish desires. Obedience and submission presume that we do what we are told even when we do not like it.
