When the disciples were confused about Jesus opinion on money, they expressed shock that wealth did not equate to godliness (a common opinion among Jews in the first century). His response was:
“Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven."
They heard it, found it hard to believe, and yet learned to accept it over time. Interesting how we seem to know better than the Apostles (!). No, I have never heard anyone say that Jesus was wrong. Yet, the way that many (very many) Catholics in America live their lives, it would appear that we really do believe that Jesus said,
"Truly, I say to you, it is much easier for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven."
Nope. That is not what He said. And it is not how we are supposed to live either. Get this one right.
