Beware Yon Dragons

A regular running monologue of opinions and ideas from a "country priest".

One of My Least Favorite Passages of Scripture

Aug. 19, 2026

There are a few places in the Bible that point out the strict requirements of clergymen. The first reading for Mass today is especially challenging though. No, it is not really "one of my least favorite", but it is one of the most convicting, to say the least. This is where God warns the "Shepherds" (religious leaders of the sixth century B.C.) about treating the people wrongly. His judgments on them are not small.

Yet, there is much more to it than mere conviction for priests who want to stay faithful to their calling. It is also a clear judgment on those who refuse to do so. God does not take it lightly when clergy abuse their people and fail in their duties. It is hard to remember that truth when we hear about so many Bishops and Priests who teach and believe non-catholic ideas, and even some heresies. Yet it is still true.

Stand fast, and keep the faith. Trust that God knows every single lie told by a Bishop; He knows each time that a Priest ruins the liturgy in his evil pride; He knows when any clergyman refuses to minister to his people. It is not our duty to bring judgment, but if we try to express what is wrong and are not heard, entrust it to God. He will bring justice; and not a pagan justice, but true justice in eternity.
